JUANDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SERVED 6.8 MILLION PASSENGERS DURING 2020

JUANDA International Airport in Sidoarjo, East Java, served as many as 6.8 million passengers during 2020 with 69,248 aircraft movements and 65,310,883 kilograms of cargo.

According to PTS General Manager of Juanda International Airport, MMA. Indah Preastuty, said that the operational performance achievement was still dominated by domestic flights because international flights were still limited.

“The highest number of passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic occurred in December totaling 605,795 passengers. In total, Juanda Airport’s performance contributed 21 percent of the company’s total operational performance,” she said.

She explained, the number of passengers served by 15 airports under the management of PT Angkasa Pura I during 2020 was 31.8 million and 385 thousand aircraft movements. When compared to 2019 traffic for Juanda International Airport, there was a 59 percent decrease, because there were travel restrictions as an effort to prevent the spread of COVID 19.

“Even though the total amount of traffic this year is not as high as last year’s performance, the monthly data show an increase, especially since the middle of the year or the third quarter. “The trend of air passenger traffic growth has been consistent since July,” Indah noted.

She added that growth would continue until December 2020, by continuing to implement the policy of tightening air transport travel document requirements.

“This shows the level of public awareness and trust in using air transportation continues to increase. As airport managers, his party and airport community agencies continue to optimize flights to and from Juanda Airport, while still prioritizing safety and security aspects that refer to the health protocol rules,” she stated.
