DESTINATION, HEALTH PROTOCOL, TRAVEL CORRIDOR ARE STILL DISCUSSIONS

MINISTER of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, when answering media questions at the “Weekly Press Briefing” which took place in a hybrid manner at the Sapta Pesona Building office of the Ministry of Tourism, Monday (10/5) said the Tourism Ministry would strengthen coordination with local governments and ensure that at the same time monitoring tourist destinations applying strict and disciplined health protocols during the Idul Fitri holidays.

“Monitoring the readiness of tourist destinations in each local area, we continue to coordinate. As is known, in this year’s Lebaran (Idul Fitri) season the government has decided to temporarily suspend homecoming to reduce the spread of COVID-19. However, for local tourism activities, it is still permissible to pay attention to data existing,” he said.

He explained that this decision was fully under the authority of the regional government and related parties by also observing the determined agglomeration. For this reason, I encourage business players, both tourist destinations and creative economy centers to coordinate with local governments.

“I really hope that this strict health protocol can be maintained so that creative economy destinations and centers do not trigger new clusters. So back to ourselves. The government will monitor and coordinate with the COVID-19 Task Force. But back again to the people themselves who must be aware. Vigilance must be increased and the public can also supervise,” Sandiaga stated.

He added that however, in the development of this tourist destination, what we want to achieve is of course to provide as much benefit as possible for the community and will be the strength of the attractions of a destination.

But when he asked which is the focus of the Ministry of Tourism at this time, Sandiaga immediately answered that at this time the Ministry of Tourism would focus on 3 things: (1). Skills improvement, (2). Ensuring economic recovery with the approach of new tourism trends, (3). Ensure that the programs that have been launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy are right on target, on time and on benefits.

“We will make sure these three things will have a big impact on the creation of as many jobs as possible and as widely as possible,” he noted.

Likewise with the travel corridor arrangement, Sandiaga said preparations were continuing while monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Batam and Bintan and the Bali zone. The Ministry of Tourism also actively coordinates intensively across Ministries/Institutions and conducts monitoring and evaluation with local government elements in the three zones.

“All issues are mapped in detail, which is the authority of the Ministries/Institutions and the Regional Government to be resolved as an aspect of supply and diplomacy with market-focused countries as an aspect of demand,” Sandiaga said.

From the results of temporary monitoring and evaluation, the Bintan Resort Cakrawala tourist area in Lagoi Bintan currently meets the criteria of being safe with a low level of risk. The positivity rate is below 5 percent, it is also an enclaved area and does not have direct contact with the population. A good health protocol system, there is zoning division within the area, and very adequate health service support.

“In June/July we are still targeting the realization of the travel bubble concept. However, it needs to be underlined, as long as the COVID-19 pandemic in each region is completely under control. We want this travel bubble to be based on facts and data,” Sandiaga affirmed.

He concluded that hopefully, after Idul Fitri 1442 H, we will convey it further, because our monev team in the field is continuing to work and will provide updates on data and fact-based recommendations for the opening of this bubble tourism. [traveltext.id]
