THE ‘Istana Berkebaya,’ which is one of the side events on the agenda for celebrating the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, can increase nationalism through the kebaya culture so that its sustainability is maintained and sustainable.
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta together with the Ministry of State Secretariat held the Istana Berkebaya event by inviting the public to love and preserve Indonesian culture, and to knit unity as a solid foundation for the progress of the nation.
“Kebaya, which is a symbol of the beauty of Indonesian culture, is expected to be an attraction for tourists to explore and enjoy the beauty of Indonesia’s nature, arts and culture,” Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono said while giving a speech at the event held in front of the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, Sunday (8/06), 2023.
Heru also hopes that with the presence of the Istana Berkebaya fashion show, it is hoped that the message of love and pride for Indonesian culture will take root in people’s hearts.
“It is hoped that this event will also be a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, preserving the noble values of the ancestors and opening up opportunities for the future,” he said.
Apart from that, Heru explained that this event was also a platform for local designers to showcase their best works that carry the beauty of Indonesian kebaya.
“This support for local designers is a concrete step in empowering the Indonesian fashion industry, creating space for their creativity to shine, and introducing the uniqueness of Indonesian culture to the fashion world,” he said.
Heru also added that the Istana Berkebaya event was a series of celebrations for the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. Previously, the moment of celebrating the month of Independence had begun with the National Remembrance and Prayer, as well as the Biggest Angklung Performance which took place with great fanfare last Saturday (8/05), 2023.
“Today, we continue in the same spirit, celebrating the beauty and cultural diversity of the Indonesian people through the kebaya fashion show. I thank you for the trust given to work together to carry out this event in the context of celebrating the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia,” he stated.
The Istana Berkebaya, which was held on a 200-meter catwalk starting at 15.30 WIB to 17.45 WIB on the northern side of Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara with a total of more than 30 thousand invited guests.
The event also involved 401 participants consisting of inspiring women from various walks of life, fashion models, professional models, ministers and female officials, embassy representatives, wives of institutional heads and regionally owned enterprises (BUMD), students, to children.
