ITALY WILL HAVE SPECIAL TRAINS FOR TOURISTS PASSING FAVORITE DESTINATIONS

ITALY has a rich history, stunning sights, delicious food, and iconic landmarks, attracting tourists from all over the world. This country offers a variety of experiences for every traveler. Starting next year, visiting every tourist spot in Italy will be even easier with special trains for tourists.

Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS), the state-owned rail operator, announced the launch of trains that will run along favorite holiday routes to attract more tourists. This train uses an antique locomotive engine.

FS Treni Turistici Italiani or Italian Tourist Train will be launched in 2024 and offer a service that is high quality, sustainable and focused on rediscovering the riches of Italy, according to the company in a press release. The concept is to provide a rail travel experience where the operator becomes an integral part of a traveler’s stopover in Italy.

According to the CNN report, the project consists of three main components, said. The ‘lusso’ (luxury) trains will be led by the luxury Orient Express Dolce Vita trains, offering a very luxurious long-haul experience. Belmond’s Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will also be part of the initiative. In addition, the project will feature ‘espressi’ (Express) and ‘treni storici’ (vintage trains) operating on new medium and long routes, connecting major cities to popular tourist destinations.

The report further states that the Espresso train will use rolling stock from the 1980s and 1990s, which has been renovated to provide modern amenities such as restaurant cars, sleeping cabins, meeting rooms, and bicycle and ski storage facilities.

For cruise ship enthusiasts, the program is poised to include ‘cruise trains’ that will transport travelers back and forth from short breaks. Finally, under the ‘omnibus-regional’ category, travelers can enjoy a slower but affordable weekend service on regional trains. These routes will be carefully selected to showcase captivating landscapes and destinations with rich culinary traditions.

The program aims to relaunch and develop high quality and sustainable tourism, and discover lesser-known places, said FS CEO Luigi Ferraris as quoted by CNN.

“The aim is to make rail travel an integral part of the client experience, creating synergies with other tourist activities, from guided tours of archaeological sites to hiking and tastings of Italian specialties, thereby focusing on the traditions and economy of the areas [route] will cover,” he finished.
