THE REASON is, there will be three additional foreign airlines that will land at Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, in the near future. The three foreign airlines have proposed initial and additional routes to Bali.
The foreign airline, namely Juneyao Airlines, is headquartered in Shanghai, China. Juneyao Airlines is scheduled to start its first regular flight to Bali on January 20, 2024, to welcome the 2024 Chinese New Year holiday season. Another foreign airline, namely Turkish Airlines. Turkish Airlines plans to increase flight frequency from the current three times a week to serve Istanbul-Bali-Istanbul.
However, currently the details of the plan to add flights from the Turkish airline are uncertain. Apart from that, there is also the Etihad Airways airline which has plans to make its first flight scheduled for April 2024 serving the Abu Dhabi-Bali-Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) route.
“We are trying all out in 2024 to add additional flights to Bali and we have made this happen ahead of the Chinese New Year holidays,” said the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno.
Sandiaga Uno added that the first flight is expected to support quality and sustainable tourism. Additional connectivity from this number of flights can reach the main quality tourism markets, namely Australia, America, Europe and Asia.
Based on data from Angkasa Pura 1 at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, during 2023 the number of air passengers served will reach 21.4 million or an increase of 71% compared to 2022 which reached 12.5 million.
The number of aircraft served also jumped 56% from 87,558 movements in 2022 to 136,503 aircraft throughout 2023. As of December 2023, there were 18 scheduled domestic routes served by 11 airlines and 29 international routes served by 34 airlines at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
