THE MINISTRY of Transportation through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has allowed Lion Air to re-operate Boeing 737-9 Max aircraft. This was after previously operating the Boeing 737-9 Max temporarily suspended (grounded) since January 6 2024.
This followed an incident where the emergency door of the same type of aircraft belonging to Alaska Airlines was released. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, Adita Irawati, explained that three aircraft, namely PK-LRF, PK-LRG, PK-LRI, were grounded to undergo inspections to ensure flight safety. Based on inspections, the type of aircraft operated by Lion Air is different from Alaska Airlines.
“It’s finished, it’s been allowed to fly again. Because it’s a different type. The door system is different from the Alaskan one. We’ve inspected it, communicated with Lion and Boeing, it’s flying again,” said Adita to journalists at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Thursday, (01/18), 2024.
Adita explained that the operating permit had been issued three to four days ago. This was after being temporarily grounded to undergo examination for several days.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations, has also carried out direct inspections in the field and communicated with the management of PT Lion Mentari Airlines, Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Furthermore, it was concluded that the emergency exits of the three aircraft had no problems.
“It was released three to four days ago. Because the temporary grounding was only a few days, we inspected the field, coordinated with Boeing and we saw that there were no problems,” concluded Aditya. [sources/photo special]
