CREATIVE ECONOMY MINISTRY FULLY SUPPORTS THE 48th JAZZ GOES TO CAMPUS

THE CREATIVE Economy Ministry has expressed its full support for the 48th iteration of Jazz Goes to Campus (JGTC), the longest-running jazz festival in Indonesia. This event is scheduled to take place on November 9, 2025, at the University of Indonesia campus in Depok. The festival was initiated by students of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UI in 1976 and has become a significant barometer of national jazz music development.

The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, expressed his appreciation for the organization of the oldest jazz music event in Indonesia, which he views as a testament to the collaboration of the younger generation in driving the growth of the music ecosystem and the creative industry. According to Teuku Riefky, JGTC is not just an event, but rather a catalyst for socioeconomic impact.

“JGTC is not only a music festival, but a creation space that fosters music-based creative economy ecosystems, opens business opportunities for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and expands the network of young musicians. While the event was not exclusively focused on delivering positive messages, it did aim to consider its social impact. On Tuesday, (9/16), the organizing committee in Jakarta and I will be working together on the 2025 event.

This year, JGTC carries the theme “Serenading Jazz for the Youth” with a series of activities since May 2025. The opening agenda, in the form of the UI Roadshow at FISIP UI, attracted 5,000 visitors. This was followed by the Margo Jazz Night in Depok, which drew approximately 8,000 visitors, and the Sarinah Jazz Night in Jakarta, which served as a warm-up to the festival’s grand finale.

“The event serves as a preliminary introduction to JGTC in 48, which we will be exploring. The objective is to raise awareness by encouraging students to take the initiative and establish connections with the community on their own. The Sarinah Jazz Night event will serve as a prelude to the commencement of JGTC,” Ravandika Project Officer stated.

Each event features a blend of young and senior musicians, fostering a cross-generation collaboration that strengthens the public’s appreciation for jazz. The committee anticipates an attendance of over 15,000 guests during the height of the event, featuring four primary stages and numerous national and international musicians.

More than 65 culinary MSMEs and 13 fashion brands will participate, creating economic values estimated at IDR1.2 billion through business turnover, local vendor involvement, and employment opportunities for people in the area.

The organizer data indicates that the majority of attendees were between the ages of 17 and 22 (46.8%), which aligns with JGTC’s strategic focus on cultivating music appreciation among younger demographics. The attendees hailed from various cities, with the largest contribution from Jakarta (43.5%) and Depok (30.6%), indicating the JGTC’s appeal across multiple regions.

The 48th Jazz Goes to Campus is a series of events that combine art, education, and economic empowerment. It is expected to continue being an inspirational stage for young musicians and creative economy drivers. The Ministry of Creative economy invites the public to attend and experience the vibrant energy of jazz music, which serves to unite diverse generations while fortifying the creative ecosystem of Indonesia.
