THE Ministry of Tourism considers the MICE industry to have strategic value because it can provide a broader economic impact than conventional tourism.
According to Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa, in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta, each destination has its own unique strengths. Bali possesses unique strengths through its rich natural resources, culture, and the hospitality of its people, which are a unique attraction for hosting MICE events.
“This potential is what we need to continue to optimize to make Bali more competitive globally. Bali has enormous potential in the global MICE industry. Based on data from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Bali is ranked 38th in the world as a destination for hosting international meetings,” she said.
She explained that in 2024, Bali successfully hosted 54 international meetings that met ICCA criteria, a significant increase compared to the previous year, which recorded 34 international meetings. Bali offers advantages in the form of rich natural resources, culture, and unique destination attractions.
Nevertheless, Ni Luh reminded that there are still a number of challenges that need to be addressed together to strengthen Bali’s competitiveness as a global MICE destination. Some of these include improving infrastructure quality, environmental management, waste management, and strengthening various other supporting aspects.
According to her, the President’s significant attention to Bali’s development and advancement presents a strategic opportunity that must be optimally utilized by all stakeholders.
“I think this is an opportunity we must seize together. Let’s work together to resolve the various issues in Bali so that we can truly realize Bali as a world-class MICE destination,” she affirmed.
Meanwhile, Bali Governor Wayan Koster emphasized the importance of BaliCEB working in a measured manner and having a strong commitment to supporting Bali’s tourism development through concrete programs over the next five years.
“This way, BaliCEB can truly play a strategic role in tourism development, particularly the MICE sector in Bali,” he said.
The agenda includes strengthening Bali’s positioning as a global MICE destination based on culture and sustainability, enhancing international promotion and global networking, actively and structuredly strengthening international event bidding strategies, improving the quality of MICE human resources, and strengthening service standards, technology utilization, security, and sustainability practices.
