TOURISM SECTOR BELIEVED TO BE A STRATEGIC SECTOR FOR INDONESIAN ECONOMY

THE INDONESIN Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy believes that tourism is a strategic sector to provide input for the Indonesian economy.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno said I believe tourism in Indonesia is a strategic sector to provide input to the Indonesian economy in its contribution to GDP,” said Sandiaga.

He added that in recent years it was only 4%, but he saw an opportunity with quality and sustainable tourism, the contribution of the tourism sector could reach 7% in the next 5-10 years.

These two sectors, namely tourism and the creative economy, contribute to the absorption of an extraordinary large workforce, while also having to make adjustments because digital disruption, which is a challenge at this time, is also a great opportunity for the tourism sector and the creative economy to continue to develop, look for opportunities and create winners.

“Therefore, I would like to entrust several programs, that hopefully friends of State Tourism Universities (PTNP), graduates will start thinking that the government is working with various stakeholders to carry out 3T programs, namely Right Target, Right Benefit, and on time. First, increasing the capacity of human resources. After graduation, graduates should never stop learning. Graduates must continue to upskill and reskill, considering this industry is constantly changing,” said Sandiaga.

Then revitalize tourism destinations and creative economic infrastructure. Tourism and creative economy actors must revitalize tourism destinations and Indonesia’s creative economy infrastructure so that they have the ability to capture the new era of tourism. Tourism Villages, Creative Spaces, creative districts/cities, these things must be presented.

In addition, increasing business resilience and competitiveness. Now all businesses are experiencing difficulties, many are being laid off. Therefore, the government through the Ministry of Tourism provides incentives and access to capital, government incentive assistance, matchmaking, Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) certification.

“Innovate and adapt to creative products and services both in the tourism and creative economy spheres. How do we encourage our MSME products through entrepreneurship so that they can penetrate not only the national market, but also the international market,” Minister Sandiaga stated.

He said that this is the era of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity or VUCA, and this has resulted in the tourism and creative economy sectors having to clean up and transform in order to bounce back.

“The tourism industry sector and the creative economy must support the Indonesian economy and take a very important role, so that the future of tourism and the creative economy is of higher quality and sustainable,” Sandiaga concluded. [traveltext.id]
